It is where we destroyed our first chassis of this season. Its a 3/8ths mile and for karts, you know that means speed and its a time to grab the bull by the horns and hold on because it’s Columbus Speedway racing and the final points race for the Mississippi Hoosier Tire Series 2017.
It was the time for us to try and grab as many spots as we can to have a good finish in the points season. Our goals at the first of this season were to finish in the top 5 in all classes for the year. We can do that but we need to not have any DNF’s at this race and we have to fight for every lap. So its time to get our game face on and buckle down and just do it.
The track was wicked fast. I know we were in the mid to upper 60’s at times and some hits in the 70’s bracket. That race fans is going fast at 2 inches off the ground. This time around unlike last time, the surface was so much smoother. That led to a minor dust problem if you were stuck in a pack. The day was spent in total concentration.
When the long day was over, we accomplished our goal for the year in this series. No I am not happy that we could not grab a leather jacket this time around, but we learned a lot, I mean a huge amount. This day saw us grab a strong 3rd in Lite, a hard fought 4th in Pro, a 5th in Medium and a 7th in Heavy and best yet, not a scratch on the kart this time around. We really did struggle in Heavy this season. Something I got to work on.
So final points were released for the season and we finished in the top five in all classes. Actually we did better than expected:
In Clone Light – 3rd
In Clone Medium – 3rd
In Clone Heavy – 5th (got to work on that)
And in Clone Sr Pro – 3rd
Awards will be handed out at a Race back in Collins at Philadelphia MS in late October. Pics to come for sure.
